Good day, friends and Uncommoners!
Here we are at the second Friday of December, which means it is time for our check-in for the Great December eHow Experiment!
For starters, here are the basic statistics:
December Earnings: $5.78
Articles total: 51
Articles Written in December: 27
I have watched the overall earning rate change per day, and it looks something like this: Monday, $2.40; Tuesday, $3.53; Wednesday, $4.30; Thursday, $5.21; Friday, $5.78. Right now, my per day rate is averaged at about $.48 cents a day, which is up $.08 from last Friday. The star of the week was an article called How to Make Money From Your Blog, cashing in with $.42 after 382 visits. While last week’s previous darling, How to Lose Weight, has stalled at its previous count of $.52 with 77 hits. All other articles written since the beginning of the month have earned nothing.
So far, I have seen no correlation between the number of comments left or ratings given to an article and money earned. Many of my articles this month have been commented on or rated, and still have earned nothing. I am unsure about hits being the key factor, because How to Lose Weight got its $.52 on just 25 hits, while How to Make Money From Your Blog has been the highest hit earner of the week and accordingly been the highest money maker. Huh.
And yet maybe hits are the secret – most of the articles I’ve written the past few weeks have received less that 50 hits, and there is a significant break between $0 earned and at least a few cents earned between 57 hits and 77 hits. Maybe 75 hits is a minimum to start earning revenue on an article? Because it is a fact that all of my articles that have earned at least 75 hits have made at least a few cents, though there seems to be other factors at work about how much they earn after that.
It might be interesting for us all to look at our top five earners. Here is what I have:
| 06/23/08 | How to Find Freelance Writing Jobs Online | 766 | ![]() | $2.83 | |
| 10/02/08 | How to Care for Orchids | 500 | ![]() | $3.77 | |
| 08/01/08 | How to Organize Your Closet | 1207 | ![]() | $4.64 | |
| 06/25/08 | How to Lower Credit Card Interest Rate | 837 | ![]() | $10.42 | |
| 08/09/08 | How to Write a Letter of Condolence | 1749 | ![]() | $10.47 |
What can we see from this information? Hit are important, sure…but there must be something about these topics that is resonating. Thoughts?
Here is my plan for the next week:
-Try to clock in 7 articles a day, putting me at 100 articles total for next week (achieving my original goal).
-Try a few techniques to get more viewers to the articles, particularly Twitter. Anyone have other suggestions to getting visibility to articles?
How is everyone else doing? Can’t wait to hear your thoughts, reactions, and suggestions below. More pieces to the puzzle, but puzzle is unsolved…for now!

Well, you can definitely earn on less than 75 hits, I have one that earned $.26 on 39 hits–I think that has to do with add clicks.
My theory is that its a combination of page views and ad click throughs. Maybe we’ll know by the end!
At this rate, everyone in the ehow experiment will be having a dinner with BFF courtesy of eHow…sounds delicious…
Not I methinks… I’m still at 6 articles on Bukisa (sorry guys – deadlines left right and centre).
Total Earnings: $0.31
By the way, there is no way that I can see on Bukisa to see which of your articles is earning more, without clicking on them to see the page views count on the article itself. (However, this seems to increase the page views, so perhaps I shouldn’t be doing that).
