The Power of Happiness

Happiness has the incredible power to transform any aspect of life.

Lately, I’ve been rereading my copy of The Secret and reminding myself about some of the elements of the law of attraction I find useful.  I’ve read the book several times over the past few years – it is small and a quick read.  I always enjoy the experience of rereading it because my reaction has been different each time.

The first time I read it fresh out of college I wanted to believe but lost interest as I got distracted by things like moving out of my parents house and starting my big corporate job.

The second time I read it I sneared at each line – my disdain for my unhappy life was projected as disdain for such a hoakey concept.

Now, the third time I’ve picked this little tome up, I am inspired by it for the simple general message: you have it in your control to shape and define your own life. While I am still not convinced of the quality of the writing, I am enjoying the positivity, can-do attitude, and encouragement of dreaming big.

As far as the actual law of attraction goes, I don’t know if the universe really listens to me when I put my hopes and dreams out there. While a part of me wants to think that I can wield the power of the cosmos to bend fate to my will, I am not 100% convinced it is – or should- be like that.  Instead, I see it more as when I am focusing on putting positivity out there and being clear about what I want, I am subconsciously tuning my mind to come up with innovative solutions to problems, keep an eye out for relevant opportunities, or take actions in accordance with my goals.

However, I must say this is just me, and I respect those who believe that the universe works for them. Like I said, I believe a little bit of universal intervention and personal action are involved in the process.  But I can say that I believe in the very positive and very real power of the law of attraction and the good it can do in some one’s life – I have had personal experience with it.

But I digress.

This morning I came across a specific paragraph that really made me stop and think:

I want to let you in on a secret to The Secret. The shortcut to anything you want in your life is to BE and FEEL happy now! …Focus on radiating out into the Universe those feelings of joy and happiness.  When you do that, you will attract back to you all the things that bring you joy and happiness…

Regardless of how you personally feel about the law of attraction, I want you to heed the words of Rhonda Byrne and do everything you can in your power to FEEL HAPPY NOW.

In our modern world of go-go-go-tex-im-blog-do-it-yesterday, sometimes I feel like we all forget something important: to be happy. Even more unfortunate is I feel like Uncommoners, in spite of our desire for authenticity, forget why we are putting so much effort into being ourselves – to be happy.

Happiness is one of the most amazing emotions a human can experience. It is expansive, it is infectious, and it is healing. Read about how to create a happiness reserve and personal energy sources here!

So whatever you are doing this minute, I want you to stop (which I guess would be reading this post) – so stop reading, take a deep breath, and feel happy.  If you can’t just start feeling happy, I want you to smile.  Smile your biggest smile, from ear to ear, crinkle the eyes – think of puppies playing the snow or baby pandas if you have to – and bask in the glow of the smile.  Smile as you drive home from work, and try to think of things you are happy for.

We always talk about success, productivity, money, career development, and motivation, but often forget the most basic reason why – we are trying to make ourselves happy.

Don’t worry…BE HAPPY!

Here’s to your Uncommon life,
