Have you ever gone through a time in your life where you felt as if things were spinning out of control? As much as we like to think that we are in control of the events which shape our lives, the truth of the matter is that we really aren’t. In fact, so many of us worry and stress about events in our lives because we are trying to retain a sense of control over them and deep down, we know that we don’t have it.
What can you do when you feel waves of stress crashing down around you? One way that people respond is to feel swamped by the strong feelings that this type of experience can create. Picture yourself falling into a body of water for a minute. You hit its surface and you continue to sink deeper and deeper into the water. For a moment, you may think that you will never stop falling and it’s at this point that you may start to panic.
While it can be tempting to panic when something occurs despite your best efforts and planning to run your life in a way that makes you feel as if you are in control, stop and take a breath first. Just as you will stop falling when you hit the proverbial water in this example and start to rise toward the surface, things will start to turn in your favor in your life, too.
How can you start the transition to a better physical, emotional, spiritual or financial place in your life? You stop, think and start taking small steps toward the goal you want to achieve. No one wants to stay stuck in less-than-ideal circumstances and this doesn’t have to be your reality.
The key to moving toward a better tomorrow is the same as if you find yourself falling into water. You relax and trust that just as your body will eventually start to rise to the surface, you will be able to find a solution to the issue that is causing you some concern. Remind yourself that you have come through other challenges in your life and that you will be able to deal with this one as well.
Once you get your mind calmed down, you can use your innate creativity to focus on finding a solution to the issue. Brainstorming, where you consider any and all solutions, can help you to start focusing on finding one which will work for you and depending on how far outside the box you are thinking, you may even get a good laugh or two in the process.

Hi Nacie
I like your description here as I am living it and am resolved to taking those small steps that will take me away from the panic when something occurs despite your best efforts and planning and closer to my better tomorrow. I agree with your statement on getting your mind calmed down, but it sure is easier said than done. I actually find it intermittent, and when the panic starts to take over, I find a way to distract it and when the creativity kicks in I go for it and work it for all I can. Thanks for the great topic!
