How are things going for you these days? Have you been feeling worried or stuck lately? While we all wish that life was smooth sailing at all times, it doesn’t always work that way. We make plans for ourselves which are contingent on things moving forward in a certain way. When something unexpected happens, our first reaction (after feeling shocked) is often to feel scared or worried.
I’m all for taking time to absorb what has just happened when something unexpected occurs. Even “good” surprises can be stressful, and it’s perfectly reasonable to give yourself some time to just take in what has occurred and sort it out in your mind.
The length of time you need will depend on what has occurred. If you have experienced some type of loss, you may feel numbed by the experience at first. This is normal, but you don’t need to stay in that place in your mind (and heart).
Take Action Even if You Don’t Feel Inspired
When you emerge from the funk that comes with something unexpected occurring, you don’t have to feel stuck. You need to take action. Don’t wait until you actually feel like doing something to change or improve your situation – you could be waiting a long time to feel inspired in this situation.
I’m going to suggest that you start by taking action first and trust that you will feel inspired later on. What do you do? That’s where the idea of turning over stones comes in. When you are looking for a solution, you may not know exactly where the answers you seek will come from.
Stay Open to Possibilities
Your goal at this point should be to keep as many possibilities for solutions in front of you as you can. Feeling panicked can interfere with this process and you may unwittingly start closing doors in your mind prematurely. Instead, accept that you may not know exactly where the solution will come from but stay confident that you will find one.
As you turn over stones and explore your options, don’t get discouraged if you don’t find your answer immediately. This process can involve gathering information, reaching out to people you already know or moving beyond your comfort zone and contacting people who you don’t know (yet) who can help you move past whatever challenge you are currently facing. You don’t need to stay stuck, Uncommoners, so long as you can find some stones to turn over and you keep moving toward the results you want.
